The ads may claim that the home reverse osmosis systems are some kind of marvel of modern engineering, but that's not the case. That's just the marketing department telling you what you want to hear.
The only people who have ever seen better health through reverse osmosis were the turn of the century folks for whom it was invented. Up until then scores of people had been dying from waterborne diseases, and RO was to be their defensive barrier between themselves and the rampant bacterial contamination. It actually paid off for the people of the time.
Don't misconstrue this to mean that you can obtain health through reverse osmosis in the present day. The pollutants which inhabit our water systems today are a far cry different than the ones that were faced by that generation. The thought that a home reverse osmosis system could protect you in the same way that it helped them is ludicrous.
In reality, the home reverse osmosis systems are totally ineffective against the chemical and bacterial contaminants that we see in this modern era. The design of the RO system makes it more appropriate for desalination and demineralization than anything else. It is simply better suited for industrial purposes than protecting the public from contaminants.
RO is the system is the same one utilized by your local treatment facility, which is basically there to promote good health through reverse osmosis by effectively cleaning the drinking water supply. There are far better options out there than home reverse osmosis systems, more efficient, more effective and more affordable.
